On Sunday July 7th 2019 FAKRO Netherlands, in collaboration with the organization Omloop der Zevenheuvelen, organized the cycling event FAKRO’s Mooiste for charity. It’s the second year this event has been organized in the beautiful surroundings of the town Berg en Dal and Groesbeek in the south-east of the Netherlands. A large group of cyclists, more than 500 people, showed up at the start of the tour on Sunday morning. These cyclists donated a very generous amount for the charity ROAd4Energy.
The tour
The tour started between 8.00 and 10.00 at the Afrika Museum in the town Berg en Dal. A beautiful and great location to start the tour during a nice and sunny day. The museum was a great starting point for all the cyclists who entered the event. Soon after starting the tour they would endure several hills, but mostly at the finish of the tour their endurance would be really tested on the hills. The tour took the cyclists through other beautiful parts of the region. Participants could choose three distances: 80, 110 and 140 kilometers. After they finished, they could enjoy a cold drink and get a snack at the new finish area: Village Arrivé.
Charity proceeds
Same as last year, FAKRO Netherlands didn’t just want to organize a cycling event to put the beautiful region (Groesbeek and Berg en Dal) on the map for the rest of the country, but also to add a social aspect by supporting a charity. This year that charity was ROAd4Energy, which helps children and grown-ups who suffer from the disease ‘energy metabolism disorder’ by doing research to find a cure. There still is no medicine for this disease and a large number of children die before the age of 10. The organization behind the charity has experienced this first hand when two members lost their child to this disease. FAKRO hopes to have helped this cause with the proceeds of the cycling event FAKRO’s Mooiste 2019. The proceeds, which mainly came from donations from the contestants and FAKRO, that will go to the charity this year are: € 1750,-.
FAKRO Netherlands would like to thank all cyclists for their participation this year and for all the donations for charity.
