The south of Poland delights with breathtaking landscapes with mountains in the background intersected by a number of rivers flowing through green forests and meadows. In one of such picturesque places you can come across the Shepherd's Cottage – a house situated by Czorsztyn Lake, which surprises with its form and mix of modernity and tradition. A comprehensive architectural and interior design project was created by HOLA Design Group which received for it prestigious Red Dot Award 2018.
The Shepherd's Cottage is a house built in the style of a highlander's cottage and beautifully located on the very shore of Czorsztyn Lake with an extraordinary view of the medieval castles in Czorsztyn and Niedzica. The building blends in perfectly with the nearby picturesque landscape and was erected with respect for the local tradition. Both the shape of the cottage and its interior stand behind a unique interpretation of the traditional architecture of the southern Poland. The roof and facade of the building are covered with aspen shingles, while wooden entrance door is decorated with an ornament referring to the local art.
The whole design is a collage of motifs from the past interspersed with modern, current trends and solutions characterised by open spaces and large glazed areas. Architects also secured an abundance of natural light in the attic. In addition to windows in gable walls, FAKRO FTP-V roof windows have been fitted in the roof. A pivot design of windows with a hinge placed in the middle of the frame allows to ventilate the room as well as enables natural light to enter inside. Roof windows also provide a view of incredible panorama of the ever-changing area.
The Shepherd's Cottage releases a huge potential of the Polish architecture that undoubtedly surprises, delighting the world with its form and originality.
